According to the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study, by 2022, Taiwan’s 14-year-olds ranked at the world’s top when it comes to civic knowledge. The civic muscle, the capacity for public engagement. And so this means that the democracy of Taiwan is in very good hands because our 14-year-olds already feel their hands are on the steering wheel. And when we make sure that the elderly people listen to the lessons of the civic gym—not from the government but from their grandchildren—they actually strengthen their civic muscle too. The most active segments in our public participation platform are the 17-year-olds and the 70-year-olds. The intergenerational unity is just awesome. And granted they have more time on their hands, but also they care more about the future.
