Another example: Early in 2020, as we were rationing masks, there were two very dangerous strains of memes making the rounds. One said that because of our SARS experience, only N95 masks are useful; everything else is just placebo. Another strain said any kind of mask actually hurts you, and N95 hurts the most. If these two continued to polarize our society, our counter-epidemic effort would not work.
