This kind of forum software is basically saying that it’s much easier to get generative policy ideas if you poll communities instead of individuals—if you aggregate the preferences of people when they’re around other people. And it’s just that. We’re now working with pollsters, such as the Napolitan Institute and Rasmussen in the U.S., to do this kind of group polling in all congressional districts. My hope is that in a few years, instead of saying it’s “deliberative polling” or “generative polling,” people will just say, “Oh, let’s have a poll.” It’s like how you don’t say “I’ll e-mail people” anymore; you just mail someone.
