I would also say that this is not the only way to train AI systems. In Taiwan, our national development fund, instead of funding one national champion that trains a huge foundational model, rewards more than 150 different smaller models, each knowing what they’re doing for a particular industry or culture. We have more than 20 national languages, including sign language and those of the indigenous nations. All of them can tune the models and train smaller models toward their particular way of working, like a code of conduct, inviting the AI systems to be assistive.
