Recently, we’ve seen initiatives like “Broad Listening” led by Takahiro Anno and friends in Japan, aiming to make the steering wheel more responsive. Or in California, Governor Gavin Newsom and I created “Engage California” two weeks ago to listen to people’s opinions on rebuilding after wildfires. These broad listening and sense-making approaches are what I call “steering,” which is what we should focus on.
