So my feeling is that if we want to contribute to this issue now, it’s better not to just develop AI faster, like pressing the accelerator, nor to stop all AI, like hitting the brakes. Instead, we need to make the steering wheel more responsive. When you see a potential harm, you need to quickly gather diverse opinions on how to address it. After gathering these opinions, you find an “uncommon ground”—approaches everyone can accept despite differences—and then quickly implement these approaches to prevent specific harms to society.
