That is the main thing that we’re designing toward. It is a way for the government to trust the people. People sometimes trust back. Sometimes they don’t, but people grow to trust each other more.
Well, to give no trust is to get no trust . And this applies to governments as well as to the big tech.
The radical trust is really what I’m after, and transparency is one of the various instruments of achieving this public trust .
Yeah, I mean, in terms of pandemic response, we’re second to New Zealand, so obviously it’s not just Taiwan. But more generally speaking, it does require, as I mentioned, the relationship muscles. It does require the public service trusting the citizens because ‘to give no trust is to get no trust .’ It does take somebody to trust the citizen first before some of the citizens trust back.
Allowlist, the “ trust but verify.” This is based on zero trust , [laughs] we don’t trust the applications, we don’t trust the user at the edges, unless there’s explicit privacy, capacity sharing, which may be audit and revoke at any given time. No capability is given to any particular application running in Sandstorm. That’s what comes to my mind when I think about zero trust configurations.
That’s a great question. Well, as the Tao Te Ching says, to give no trust is to get no trust . If the vertical institutions do not trust the people, especially the vulnerable people who otherwise do not have a voice, then it is very difficult to earn that trust back because currently it is very easy to build the horizontal mode of trust of a peer-to-peer communication.
It relies on a fully transparent, accountable substrata that people can really trust . I think building that trust is really our main link.
