Because we made many of those PC compatibles back in the 80s. And it was a very different era of course. But I was born in a place that basically fostered this counter-cultural thinking that you do not need to rely on the mainframe computer, so the big state or big corporation monitors every key you press into your terminal—which was a fancy way to connect to the cloud back then.
