But let’s just start with also a personal note about the first time I heard about Taiwan and the two words “Pol.is.” That was in 2017. Was really one of my defining, eye-opening moments in my career as tech journalist when I heard about Pol.is. And then also the movement “g0v” [gov-zero], and everything what Taiwan is doing. And then I realized: Wow, so digitalization of democracy can be a good thing. Because by now, and back then, when we think about digital democracy, we think about all these platforms as you said: designing maximizing attention, engagement, polarization, calling disinformation, deepfakes, and also contributing to the rise of populism.
