Instead of getting people to lose their minds on anti-social media, we built a pro-social media. And the technology is called Pol.is. It’s a digital space designed to listen and see each other’s feelings. Crucially, there is no reply button, and no retweet button either. So there is no room for trolls to grow. There’s no way to dunk on someone just to get some points. As you participate, you see one feeling from a fellow citizen. For example, they feel that undercutting meters is not fair, but making the surge pricing higher is quite fair. Maybe you agree, maybe you disagree, and you press like or unlike or pass. As you do so, you see your avatar moving toward a cluster of people who feel similarly to you. But then the other feature: We have a scoreboard that shows the leaders who can propose the bridging statements that make the two clusters of people who otherwise never agree start agreeing. So people start competing to build longer and longer bridges.
