This is fundamentally conservative, right? It’s about preserving the tradition, the lineage, what matters, what is meaning-making to a certain community. Then we add to that the ability to translate across epistemic norms, across communities, so the wider society becomes more plural. It’s conservative, but it’s not stopping new norms from emerging. It’s more like a symbiogenetic way of thinking about community, so that people join into larger conversations without sacrificing their autonomy in the local community.
