We were on two tracks that were directly opposite. There’s no winner, I guess; you win by default once you turn in that direction. The main challenge Taiwan faced during the past decade—in addition to the polarization attacks from Beijing (for the past 12 years, Taiwan was top of the world on the receiving end of those attacks)—was focusing on countering the narrative that democracy only leads to chaos and never delivers.
