We’ve actually already touched on this question. My thought is that human happiness is built on the meaning generated through mutual exchange and care between people. These human-to-human exchanges and the creation of shared meaning are what most people in society find meaningful, whether or not it’s related to work. If your work completely lacks creating meaning with others, and is just about connecting one machine to another, then even if your salary is high or you’re a great investor who has made a lot of money, it may generate what we call utility or benefits.
