I think J.D. Vance’s speech outlines a direction. The technological idea here is that we need to ensure that communities have moderation in their own hands, instead of just making sure one single state actor or one single Big Tech actor does that. As long as it’s centralized in one decision-maker, this false trade-off will inevitably happen.
