If you look at Perplexity’s integration of R1, for example, it seems to have effectively removed the second layer. Moreover, if you rely on Perplexity to do web searches, it grounds its answers in actual web results, which mitigates the third-layer “hallucinations” or ideological partialities. They’re not entirely eradicated, but they’re largely contained. Of course, to fully address these issues, an entirely new open version—like Open-R1—would be ideal.
